Why NABH accreditation is important for hospitals

About the NABH accreditation…

National accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare
Providers (NABH) is a constituent board of Quality Council of India (QCI) to
set up guidelines for hospitals & healthcare providers for quality
healthcare services.

Why it is important for hospital…

  • Usually, a hospital is certified by local
authority and no standard model is followed for quality healthcare services.
  • 2.     Also, infrastructure & man power of many
hospitals is not up to the mark. Which lower down the quality of healthcare
    service in our country.

NABH guide & verify the quality, infra, signage for
patients, patient rights, doctor’s responsibility and many more to improve
hospital’s standard and quality of services.

Advantages for getting NABH accreditation…

  • 1.
Patient consider this accreditation as a
guarantee of good healthcare services. So, foot fall of the patient increases
    with this accreditation.
  • 2.
Rate for NABH accredited hospital is higher in
CGHS & other cashless rate lists than private hospital.

Why many hospitals
are not interested in getting this accreditation…

  • 1.
    It is lengthy process.
  • 2.
It cost more money than running hospital without
    accreditation.
  • 3.
Many changes in infrastructure and previous
design of hospital is required which is again cost effective.
  • 4.
     Certified
manpower like, Nurses, Technicians, Attendants, RMOs is suggested. Which again
increases the burden of running a hospital.
  • 5.
Equipment, use of hospital premises, signage,
patient rights, doctor’s responsibility any many more things discourage the
doctors to go for this accreditation.
  • 6.
Also, as per current survey, rates of
organization helping to get this accreditation is too high than expected as it
is compulsory for cashless hospitals. Which suddenly increases their demand in
    this field.
  • 7.
Annual maintenance cost of this certification is
also too high for small hospitals.

Future of NABH accreditation…

  • 1.
In coming days, may be this will be not only
compulsory for cashless hospitals but also for all private hospitals.

So, it is better for hospitals to go for this
accreditation as soon as possible as anyway they have to do that.
